Bianca Van Wyk Competes at Tampa Pro and DC Pro

 

South African IFBB Bikini Pro Bianca Van Wyk concluded a challenging two-show campaign in the United States this past weekend at the 2026 IFBB Tampa Pro, following her appearance at the 2026 IFBB DC Pro on June 6. At both prestigious events, the natural athlete secured 16th-place finishes among fiercely competitive fields.

Van Wyk's American campaign began in earnest on June 6 at the IFBB DC Pro, where she stepped onto the stage in what many observers noted was an exceptionally shredded condition. Her muscular striations were visibly pronounced—a state that, while impressive in many bodybuilding divisions, is typically penalised in bikini competitions, where judges favour a softer, smoother aesthetic with less visible muscle separation. Recognising this feedback, Van Wyk and her coach, Matt Weitz, made significant adjustments ahead of the Tampa Pro on August 1. The South African athlete arrived at the second show with a markedly softer and smoother physique, more closely aligned with the bikini criteria. Despite these refinements, she again placed 16th in a field won by Jordan Brannon.

Matt and I took the feedback from the last season and literally worked our butts off. Some may say I "improvement season"-ed TOO well (based on the judges feedback), but heck, if that was my only downfall, then I'll take it.

What a privilege it was to share the stage with 7 Olympians (no doubt I was shitting bricks too😅). Now we take the critique and just come back better!!

The decision to adjust her conditioning between shows suggests that Van Wyk and her long-time coach, Matt Weitz, were responsive to what the judges were communicating. The fact that they identified the issue and implemented changes for the second show indicates a willingness to adapt—an essential quality in competitive bodybuilding. However, the question inevitably arises: is Weitz the right coach to take her to the next level? Having guided her since she first began competing in April 2021 and through her rapid ascent to earning her Pro Card in May 2022, Matt clearly understands her physique. Matt made Bianca no doubt about that. Yet the back-to-back 16th-place finishes raise legitimate questions about whether his approach can elevate her from the middle of the pack to podium contention in the deepest US shows. 

Looking Forward

For Van Wyk, the 2026 season represents a period of growth and experience on the biggest stages in bodybuilding. While podium finishes remain a future goal, her appearance at two major US pro shows demonstrates her commitment to competing at the highest level. As she continues to work  the Bikini Pro will undoubtedly use the lessons from these recent competitions to refine her package for future shows.
