Angie Gous Claims Bikini Title at Shaye Best Classic

Cape Town — Angie Gous has been crowned the Bikini Champion at the Shaye Best Classic, cementing her place among the Western Cape's elite physique athletes at one of South Africa's premier bodybuilding events.

The Shaye Best Classic, now in its fifth year, has grown into a landmark show on Mzansi's bodybuilding calendar, celebrated for showcasing non-affiliated athletes and offering substantial prize purses to its champions.


A Stage for Champions

Gous impressed the judges with her stage presence and carefully sculpted physique, emerging victorious in a competitive lineup that highlighted the depth of talent in the region.

Walking away from my very first competition with a win in my first lineup, Bikini Over 171cm, and then taking home the Overall Bikini 2026 Winner title is something I’m still trying to wrap my head around. What a way to start this journey.And of course, the moment Shaye handed me my cash prize and asked if I had my boyfriend or dad nearby to help me carry it… definitely a moment I won’t forget.

Embracing her unique self

Angie details her self image journey and how important embracing herself was.


I was bullied in high school for having a “masculine” build. There would be commented and made fun of on my broad, strong body, and I started believing that being accepted meant becoming smaller. So I starved myself. I obsessed over calories and macros. I wanted to be the smallest, most petite version of myself because I thought that was what I had to be.And then I found bodybuilding...It became such a huge part of my healing. It taught me to appreciate my strength, see my worth, and love the body I once tried so desperately to shrink.
