Melissa Zaeimder Makes Pro Debut at Chicago Pro

 

For South Africa's IFBB Pro Women's Bodybuilder, Melissa Zaeimder, her professional debut at the Chicago Pro may not have ended in victory, but it marked a courageous first step on a promising journey. The experience has given her invaluable insight into the standards required at the highest level—insight that will only fuel her determination to return stronger.

Competing at the prestigious Chicago Pro, Zaeimder’s much-anticipated debut concluded with a finish outside the Top 10. In a candid reflection posted to her IG the athlete offered a glimpse into the emotional aftermath:

 "Well… it wasn’t my night. I didn’t make the Top 10, and while that’s never the outcome you work for, that’s the nature of this sport."

While the result was undeniably a blow to her immediate ambitions, it is important to contextualize Zaeimder’s trajectory within the broader narrative of South African bodybuilding. It was only in December 2024, at the Johannesburg NPC Pro Qualifier, that she secured her professional status by clinching the Overall title in the Women’s Physique division. Rather than rushing with paraffin speed into the Pro league with an underdeveloped frame, Mel elected to take a full year away from the competitive stage—a hiatus dedicated exclusively to gaining that extra Size for division switch from Women's Physique to the more muscular, dense requirements of Women’s Bodybuilding.

This measured approach shows an athlete who is acutely aware that the Pro stage demands more than just symmetry; it necessitates sheer mass and density to compete with the global elite. Zaeimder has made no attempt to hide that she hopes her course leads, inevitably, to the Olympia—the sport’s ultimate pinnacle. In this regard, she is following the blueprint laid down by her compatriot, Tiana Flex, who remains the only South African female to have secured a spot at the 2025 Olympia.
